I am not the kid getting pushed to the ground,
or the “emo girl.”
I am not the one who hides behind raccoon-eyed eyeliner
or behind long, messy hair.
I am not the person who covers themselves with sweatshirts and jeans because they couldn’t stand their body.
I am not the multiple hospitalizations due to an addiction to self-mutilation.
I am not the scars that are etched across a body and I am not the illness that overwhelms a brain.
I am not the past.
What I am is a person.
I am a vivid dream of a brighter world.
I am a raging storm of love and emotion.
I am a person. I am valid. I am so much more."
